Why We Built Paddli
We are Jamie and Helen, co-founders of Paddli and owners of Amba, a rehomed golden retriever from Guide Dogs UK.
We have spent many years working with Guide Dogs UK doing chair work, and during that time we have used a lot of dog fields and paddocks — for training sessions, socialisation walks, and giving Amba the space she loves to run.
What we kept running into was the same frustration. Booking systems that were painful to use on a phone. Forms that asked for too many details before you could even see availability. Checkout processes that did not support Apple Pay or Google Pay, making a simple booking feel slower and more awkward than it needed to be. Sites that were clearly built for desktop and barely worked on mobile.
The tools these field owners were using were not built for dog fields. They were generic scheduling software designed for salons, consultants and fitness classes — patched together to sort of work for outdoor bookings. None of them understood single-party access, buffer times, dog details, or the fact that most people book from their phone while their dog pulls them towards the car.
Jamie is the founder of a software and cloud consultancy, so the technical knowledge was there. The question was not whether we could build something better — it was whether we should. After yet another frustrating booking experience on a rainy Tuesday evening, we decided the answer was yes.
We started building Paddli in 2025 from our home in Somerset, with Amba asleep under the desk. The goal was simple: build dog field booking software that actually works the way dog fields operate. Mobile-first. Fast checkout with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Single-party access enforced by default. Dog details collected at booking. Buffer times between sessions. No monthly fees — field owners only pay when they earn.
Paddli is not a generic tool we adapted for dog fields. It was built for dog fields from day one, by people who use them every week.
